September 18, 2012 Meeting

SEPTEMBER 2012 MEETING


BROWNWOOD QUILTERS GUILD

The September 18, 2012 meeting of the Brownwood Quilters Guild was called to order by President, Nancy Tubb.

Twenty four members were present. There was one visitor – Brigit-Carol Lay.

General Announcements

Nancy Tubb thanked all who participated in the Wee Care workday. Quilts kits are ready to be assembled after the meeting.

There were two openings left for the Block of the Month program. Doniene Fullagar volunteered for April and Sherri Marshall for May.

The Courthouse Steps Quilt Club of Goldthwaite will have their annual quilt show on Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mills County Civic Center. For more information, call Kay Stewart at 325-372-8511 or email her at Bstew273@centex.net.

The program for October will be “Cathedral Windows” presented by Alice Young.

November’s program will be a purse presentation and workshop by Angela McCorkle. The cost for the workshop is $15 and is due at the October meeting. The pattern and pre-cut batting strips are included. Members will furnish their own fabric.

The minutes of the August meeting were read by Secretary, Benita Pipes. There were no corrections. Doniene Fullagar made a motion to accept the minutes as read, Joy Ivy seconded, and the motion carried.

The Treasurer’s Report was presented. The balance as of September 18, 2012 was $6,516.37. A motion to accept the report was made by Biolanda Villalpando and seconded by Millie Schwab. The motion carried.

Old Business

Norma Bessent presented her analysis of local charities. There was discussion on the two charities recommend by Norma Bessent, The Pregnancy Care Center and local fire departments, and how our contribution would be best served.

A motion was made by Angela McCorkle to combine the proceeds from the charity change, the donation quilt and the goody basket with the total given to the selected charity after the quilt show. Marcella League seconded the motion and the motion carried. A motion was made by Angela McCorkle to select The Pregnancy Care Center as the Guild’s charity for 2012-2013. The motion was seconded by Doniene Fullagar and the motion carried.

New Business

There was no new business.

Committee Reports

Wee Care – Joy Ivy explained how the Wee Care quilts are distributed at the hospital. Margaret Carter, a case manager, manages the distribution primarily to the ER, the children’s wing and the nursery according to need.

Judy Tiedeman made a motion to sell baby quilts at the project booth during the quilt show to raise money for Wee Care batting and supplies. Robin Moody seconded the motion and the motion carried. Doris Rice reported that Hobbs in Waco will give free batting with four UPC codes cut out from any Hobbs batting product. Members were asked to cut out and save UPC codes and give them to Doris.

Quilt Show - Angela McCorkle reviewed job descriptions for sub-committees and reported that the donation quilt will be ready next month.

Monthly Drawings

Block of the Month – Doniene Fullagar presented the Block of the Month for October, a blue and white Churn Dash block.

The Block of the Month drawing was won by Doniene Fullagar.

The fat quarter drawing was won by Nancy Tubb. The color for October is “warm batiks.”

The meeting was adjourned for the program, “Dress to the Nines,” presented by Marcella League.
