June 2013 Meeting
Brownwood Quilters
Guild
The June meeting of the Brownwood Quilters Guild was called
to order by President, Joy Ivy. Roll was
called; there were 33 members present.
We did not have any visitors.
Joy presented a “Presidents Address” & read a poem. She then announced new officers.
Treasurer’s report was presented by Cindy Hadley. Cindy stated that there is $7,782.94 in the guild account.
Marcella League & Benita Pipes presented out-going president, Nancy Tubb, with a wall hanging. It was made by Marcella & quilted by
Benita.
There was no old business to discuss.
New Business:
Doris
Rice asked if members wanted to continue monthly BOM. All agreed.
Doris will present a block in August to be completed in Sept. Doris then presented a tentative list of programs
for the year. The list was given to
members.
We will begin a “strip drawing” instead of a fat quarter
drawing each month. Each participant
will bring 3 strips, 2 ½” by WOF. The
colors for July will be red, white & blue.
We will be starting a Row by Row Mystery quilt for those
that choose to participate. Members will
be given a subject to make 4 like- blocks; the first being buildings or if you
choose to do a Christmas theme, the
block will be gifts. Members have 2 months
in which to prepare blocks & bring them to the August meeting to show
them. For those that complete a row,
their name will be put in the pot for a drawing. When the final row is completed, all that
completed their quilt, will be in for a big drawing! Each member will be making their own quilt.
The July program will be a covered dish party. We will have a Style Show presented by
Marcella League. Everyone wear a
T-shirt! Join in on the fun! Please, don’t forget your covered dish.
A volunteer was requested by Joy Ivy to help as assistant
greeter to help when Bethany Bletsch is not at a meeting. Lynn Patrick agreed to do this.
The Sunshine report
by Sherry Benbow was given. She was
happy to announce that everyone, to her knowledge, is healthy!
Sherri Marshall & Bethany Bletsch will continue with
keeping the website updated. Vickie
Mazurek has agreed to come on board to assist with that.
Robin Moody was not present to present the CPS bag report (
birth of a Granddaughter). However, we
think we are in good shape in that dept.
Judy Tiedeman has graciously accepted the position of being
in charge of Wee Care quilts.
Quilt Show report was given by Angela McCorkle. She stated that the show made about $500 more
than previous show. With our 10th
Anniversary coming up, she gave the history of our quilt shows.
There was also discussion about attendance. Attendance was up a little by having a
Fri-Sat show over a Sat-Sun show. The
feeling is that it will increase as people become more aware of the Fri-Sat show.
Bethany Bletsch made a motion to have a 2 day pass package
for $10 for admittance to the quilt show.
Marcella League seconded &
motion carried.
Angela requested that members be considering what areas of
the show they would be willing to take a committee for.
There was discussion on getting outside help on putting up
racks & hanging quilts as many members are no longer able to do this type
of work. Shelia Smith’s husband is
checking on modifying our racks as well, that will make them easier to
assemble.
