October 2013 Minutes

MEETING MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m. by guild President, Joy Ivy.

Roll  was called.  There were 18 members present.  Shaula  Patton was our only visitor.  We did have a new member join, Elaine Anderson.  Her address & phone # is the same as Stella Burns

   No Sunshine report given.  Sherry was not present.  Alice Young fell.  She is in a facility for physical therapy. 

Minutes from the September meeting were discussed.  Doniene Fullagar  made a motion to accept the minutes as written, Vickie Mazurek seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Treasurers Report:  Cindy Hadley gave the report.  Sherri Marshall made a motion to accept treasurer's report.  Doniene Fullagar seconded it.  Motion carried.

Block of the Month Exchange:  Shelia Smith presented the block for next month.  The pattern is a scrappy block.

Strip Exchange:  Fall fabric

CPS Bags Report:   Doniene brought 2 bags.  Robin was not present.

Wee Care Report:  There were 7  quilts & 3 premie sets taken to the hospital.

Quilt Show Report:   Angela reported that we have 3 confirmed vendors for next years show.  Vintage Redwork will have a program on Friday & Doris Rice will present Texas Trunk Show on Saturday.

The dates for the show will be April 25^th & 26^th.  Angela also presented an option to have “Route 66” display instead of a bed turning.  She is going to check availability.  Cost will be $150. 

There was discussion on having someone to put up the rack & hang quilts.  We are still looking for someone to do that.  Angela requested an additional $1000 to be added to quilt show budget to cover added expenses.  Sherri Marshall made a motion to accet her proposal, Shelia Smith 2^nd it.  Motion carried.  Angela made a motion to have ticket prices changed to $7/day or $10 for a 2 day pass.  Vickie Mazurek 2^nd it.  Motion carried.

General Business:  Joy reminded us that Donniene Fulagar has graciously invited the Guild to her home for our Christmas party.  Doniene will bring maps to November meeting.

October 19^th is Early Pioneer Days.  Shelia Smith, Norma Bessent, Mildred Turner & LaTrelle Locks volunteered to run booth.

New business:  The Brownwood Chamber wants us to provide Christmas Quilts as well as help make Gingerbread men for Christmas Under the Stars on December 7^th & 8^th.

Vickie Mazurek has “spruced up” our website.  Please check out what she has done!

ROW by ROW:  Next months block will be a churn dash block for both groups

Joy Ivy- Door prizes for Richard’s class reunion.  Included Gingerbread pillowcases, Fall table runner, Christmas tree wall hanging

Cindy Hadley- Southern Belle, bought at an auction in Bangs

LaTrelle Locks- Cruz’s Quilt

Patsy Oehrlein- Embroidered name tag, turned into a luggage tag

MONTHLY DRAWINGS:

The monthly block drawing was won by Mildred Turner.

The strip drawing was won by  Mildred Turner.

The strip color for October will be Fall fabrics.

PROGRAM:   The program was presented by Angela McCorkle & Shaula Patton of The Feathered Star in Clyde , Texas.  Angela showed us how to use our small scraps by using “leaders & enders”.  Shaula expanded on this by presenting numerous quilts & patterns. Our treat was shopping after their program!
