August 2014 Minutes

              August 2014 Meeting
                                           Brownwood Quilters Guild

The August 19th meeting was called to order by President Joy Ivy.
Roll was called. There were 22 member present and 2 new members joined.

Meeting minutes from July meeting were read and accepted.

Wee Care: 2 receiving blankets

CPS Bags: 10 bags

General Business:President Joy Ivy discussed locations of quilt shows coming up in the Central Texas area. Discussion of places we would take the raffle quilt followed. One location will be the Hamilton County 43rd Annual Dove Fest, October 24th and 25th. Vickie took the guild raffle quilt home with her to sell tickets at the up coming Comanche County Pow Wow in Comanche Sept. 27th and 28th. The guild paid $40.00 for a booth at the Pow Wow.

Block of the month was presented by Norma Bessent.

The "Brown Bag Challenge" exchange took place, projects for the person you drew, are due back at the November meeting.

The "Penny Auction" was held. "Penny Auction" donations were given by Doniene Fullagar and Vickie Mazurek. Guild members buy $1.00 tickets for a chance to win. The proceeds will go toward monthly programs. $54.00 was raised. Winners of the Auction were Millie Schwab and Joy Ivy.

Millie Schwab reminded members that after the September meeting, we will have a potluck luncheon and following lunch we will have a program with Suzi Parron. Wear appropriate clothes to paint your barn block. Some will need to bring masking tape, hair dryers and freezer paper to share. 

Show and Tell:
 Elaine Anderson Showed "Amish Shadows" quilt.

Doris Rice showed 3 bags gifted to her by a blog friend and her picnic quilt she made for a blog hop. She also showed a bag she made and then donated it for the September "Penny Auction".

Joy Ivy showed us a train quilt she made for her first great - grandson.

Millie Schwab showed the label she made for the guild raffle quilt, red work blocks and a recycled project.

Sherri Marshall showed her "Pinwheels and Stars" quilt and her completed "General's Wives" block of the month.
