2014 Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by President Joy Ivy.
Roll was called. There were 19 members present and 1
visitor.
The August minutes were read. Doris Rice made a motion to
accept the minutes, Doniene Fullagar second the motion, motion carried.
Treasurer report was read by Joy Ivy. Year books were
handed out.
Sunshine
Report: Given
by Joy Ivy---Terry Reed is in the hospital recovering, and doing better.
Becky Martin reminded the ladies how important it is to
get your yearly mammogram.
Wee
Care: Ruby reported she
has 3 to take and 1 receiving blanket was brought today.
CPS
: Nancy Tubb reported 2
bags brought today, 18 were dropped off last month and were very appreciated.
General
Business: Joy informed the members that the Buda Quilt Show &
Christmas Bazzar is November 7-8 and The Town n’ Country Quilt Guild of Stephenville will
have the Threads of Texas Quilt Show Oct. 3-4 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Family
Life Center.
Nancy Tubb reported that
we have a booth to sell raffle tickets on the quilt at The Mills County Artisan Guild Fall Craft Show Nov. 22nd in Goldthwaite,
TX.
Millie
Schwab presented the September block of the month, “Card Tricks” with a brief
demonstration.
Ruby
Goodwin stated that the Good Samaritan has 3
quilts they would like someone to quilt for them and she said she knows
someone who needs a T-shirt quilt made if anyone is interested.
The
Comanche County, Texas Historical Museum contacted the Brownwood Quilt Guild, asking us to
have a look at this 1934 Friendship quilt. We discussed ways to preserve
or restore it. It's an "Improved Nine Patch" that had 49 blocks in it
at one time. 47 of which had the friends names on the blocks. It was quilted by
the Harmony Good Will Club in1934.
The
“Penny Auction” was held. Donations were a bag made by Doris Rice, won by
Angela McCorkle, 2 pincushions made by Vickie Mazurek, won by Norma Bessent and
Doniene Fullagar.
Door
prizes were won by: Joy, Doris, Norma and Biolanda. Fat quarters were won by:
Doniene. Block of the month was won by: Nancy Tubb
Show & Tell: Connie Hart showed a bonnet
her Grandmother made for her Dad, Earl Deen, who was born in 1913.
Doris
Rice showed her “Suzy Homemaker” quilt,
valance, hot pads, tea towels and placemats she made for a blog hop and
“Scrappy Stars” quilt she made for a friend to test her pattern.
Joy Ivy
showed a wreath her sister made her for her sewing room and a folder full of vintage
quilting leaflets and patterns given to her by a friend.
Wanda
showed a quilt she made for friends called “Blooming Bricks”.
Millie
Schwab showed a Star sampler quilt she made for friends following directions
from McCall’s mystery quilt.
Nancy
showed a table topper made from left over blocks, a Texas panel quilt, and a
Texas paper piecing project she made from a Kaye England class.
Norma showed a table runner she made to support
the womens ministry at her church.
Vickie
showed a completed wall hanging she made from a class she took from Pat Sloan
and a Vintage Cowgirl quilt made for a blog hop.
We then
had a lecture/story telling from guest speaker Suzi Parron, author of 'Barn Quilts
and the American Quilt Trail Movement.'
Meeting adjourned. There
was a potluck luncheon followed by a workshop where 12 members and our guest
participated in painting barn quilts.
