21, 2014 Meeting Minutes
The
meeting was called to order by President, Joy Ivy.
Roll
was called, there were 26 members present.
Minutes
were read by Vickie Mazurek, Shelia Smith read the treasurer report.
Sunshine report by Sherry B: A card sent Becky M.
Wee Care report by Ruby : 4 Wee Care
quilts for the hospital have been made with the fabric Margret Carter donated
last month.
CPS Bag report given by Nancy : 6 bags
were donated. Nancy also read a thank you card sent to the guild by the Child
Welfare Board.
Announcements : Millie stated that the March 2015
program would be a lady from Choate Ranch Quilt Shop in Cisco doing a
demonstration and trunk show and Millie also talked about the possibly of a
road trip to Cisco to visit the quilt
shop sometime.
Our “Brown
Bag Projects” are due back at the November meeting. Robin asked everyone to bring a non-quilting magazine
with us as well. Why? It’s a surprise.
Joy informed
us about a block Shelia made and submitted, that was chosen to be in a quilt
shown at the Dallas Fair this year.
We
will have our annual Christmas party on Dec. 16, 2014. We’ll have a pot luck
lunch, a Chinese Christmas exchange and Millie’s friend Martin will play the
guitar for us.
General Business: Doniene announced that she
will be stepping down as quilt chairman. Connie made the motion to accept
Doniene’s resignation, Shelia second the
motion.
Shelia spoke about the 2015 budget and asked
if we have ever filed a 990N for nonprofit organizations, EIN# and talked about
raffle laws.
We
discussed the quilt show attendance, budget, finding other sponsors, finding
other venues and discussed if we should have a quilt show in 2015. A motion was made by Vickie to vote yes or no
on having it in 2015….the no motion carried with 25 votes.
Show & Tell: Becky Martin showed the 16 CPS
bags she made. She said she made one after each day she had a radiation
treatment for cancer and, that focusing on others would take her mind off
herself. Much applause followed Becky’s statement!
Shelia
showed a quilt kit offered by MD Anderson every year, a challenge to benefit
cancer research called Cherrywood for the Cure.
Millie made a "Snuggle
Blanket" for Wee Care, a nine patch quilt she added interest to with sunflowers
she cut free hand and appliqued, and a quick and easy bowtie quilt.
Doris showed a quilt made with her block
that was published in Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine. She showed a quilt she
made for a blog hop called Black Cat Crossing, and a messenger
bag made from “She Who Sews” fabric.
Lana's husband races
boats, and she made two quilts with some of his many racing t-shirts which she
donates to auctions.
Ruby hand quilted a "Bear Paw" quilt. She said her late
husband drove her all over Texas to collect shirting fabrics for it and none
are repeated.
Doniene
made a "Joys of Christmas" sampler quilt. She intends to have
one made for every bed in her home by next Christmas. She also made a quilt
from the September block of the month exchange that she won.
Winners: Fat quarters were
won by Robin, BOM blocks won by Elaine, Door prizes won by Nancy, Joy, and
Biolanda. Penny auction winners were Sherri M. Joy and Nancy.
