May 19, 2015 Brownwood Quilters Guild Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Joy Ivy.

Roll call question: What was your favorite thing we did or that you learned at guild this year? There were 22 members in attendance.  

April minutes were accepted as written and treasurer's report and financial statement was explained by Treasurer, Shelia Smith: Hard copies were available.

Standing Committee Reports:

Sunshine: Honorary member, Alice Young was reported in the hospital and has since passed away.

Wee Care: Ruby Goodwin reported 6 quilts are ready to be donated this month.

CPS Bags: 1 was reported at this time.

Old Business:

1.  Joy Ivy thanked the 6 volunteers that came on Thursday after the guild meeting last month and sorted donated fabric in preparation for the stash sale in June.

2. Discussion and questions about a quilt show next year were brought up. Motion made by Marilyn DeHay  to table that discussion until after new 2015-2016 board take office in June, motion seconded by Doniene Fullagar.

3. The top 3, Eight 1/8ths Challenge winners were announced and awarded prizes by Vickie Mazurek. Those winners were Connie Hart, Jeanie Ortegon, and Joy Ivy.  Vickie also read comments and compliments on each item made for the challenge by Judge Debby Kratovil.

New Business:

1. Nominating  Committee member, Sherri Marshall reported who the new officers elect will be for 2015-2016.  There was discussion about trying a “President Elect”. The president elect would help and learn from the president and take office in the 2016-2017 year. A motion to try it for a year was made by LaTrelle Locks, and was seconded by Judy Tiedeman. 
The 2015-2016 officers will be as follows: 1. President- Lana Webb, 2. President Elect- Muriel Lamkin, 3. Vice Presidents- Millie Schwab and Robin Moody, 4. Treasurer- Connie Hansen, 5. Secretary- Judy Tiedeman. Ruby Goodwin made a motion to accept the state of officers; LaTrelle Locks seconded the motion-motion carried. New officers will be inducted at the June 2016 meeting.

2. Millie Schwab presented outgoing President Joy Ivy with signed blocks by guild members for her 2 years of dedicated service.

Show and Tell:

1. Vickie Mazurek- “Black Hills Bison” collage art quilt.

2. Millie Schwab- quilt for new great-nephew.

3. Connie Hart- Memory art quilt for her niece of “Bess”, a Golden Retriever. Connie also mentioned that the “Hunter’s Star” she made and showed the guild a few months back, was donated and brought $8000.00 at the Buck masters Banquet!

4. Doniene Fullagar showed 2 quilts she quilted for her daughter who did the piecing, and a “Friendship Star” Doniene made for a friend who moved.  

Drawings:

1. Fat quarters won by: Joy Ivy

2. BOM won by: Shelia Smith

3. Penny Auctions winners: Ruby Goodwin, Vickie Mazurek and Wanda Jackson.

4. Door Prize winners:  Judy Tiedeman, Mildred Turner, Stella Burns and Lana Webb.

Meeting adjourned for a demonstration of the Accu Quilt Go die cutter, by Lana Webb.
