Brownwood Quilters' Guild
Minutes of Meeting,
July 19, 2016
The Brownwood Quilters Guild met for its regular meeting on
Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the First Christian Church. President Lana Webb
called the meeting to order.
Roll call was answered by 17 members present. Visitors were
Dianna Mayfield, Laynie Evans, and Wanda Baker.
The Consent Agenda with one correction to the minutes (106
pillowcases, not 110, were donated by members) was approved after a motion by
Jan Cate and second by Connie Hansen.
New business:
The programs planned for August and October have been
switched.
Connie Hart reported on the annual audit, which showed no
problems or concerns. LaTrelle Locks moved to approve the audit, with Mildred
Turner seconding.
Connie Hansen presented the 2016-2017 budget.
The group discussed the use of the AccuQuilt and possible
purchase of letter and number dies. Lana will investigate the cost.
The group agreed to try alternatives to the fat quarter
drawing month by month. For August we are to bring 4 10-inch squares in fall
colors.
The group agreed to not do a donation quilt this year,
2016-2017.
Lana reviewed changes in the by-laws that will be voted on
next month.
BOM: Lana
presented the block for August, an 8 ½-inch unfinished Shoo-Fly block in yellow
and teal. Her hand-out included the history of this block. She encouraged
future BOM presenters to include the history of their block. The July BOM’s
were won by Laynie Evans.
Fat quarter drawing: The red and white fat quarters were won by Ann
Turner.
Program auction: Coozies made by Jan Cate were won by Ann
Turner and Connie Hansen. Robin Moody, Becky Martin, and Biolanda Villalpando
won boxes of 4 ½-inch precut squares done by Lana Webb.
Show and Tell:
Mildred Turner: 2 Wee Care quilts—Jellyroll Race and Cross
Stitch Rabbit,
Sunflowers, and Hello Sunshine
Connie Hart: Nana’s Cross and Hayden’s Quilt
Lana Webb: Grandmother’s Flower Garden (made by her mother)
and antique dolls with clothes made by Millie Schwab.
LaTrelle announced a fall fair at Zephyr with booths
available to groups.
Lana shared information about the Austin Area Quilt Guild’s
“Capital of Texas QuiltFest”, September 16-18 at Palmer Event Center in
downtown Austin.
The business meeting adjourned for lunch, a summer picnic,
with table decorations done by Donna Swanger and Jeanie Ortegon. The guild
provided fried chicken and the members brought side dishes.
Following lunch several members stayed to visit and work on
projects they had brought.
