8 Annual Heart of Texas Quilt Show

8th ANNUAL
HEART OF TEXAS QUILT SHOW

   HELLO QUILTERS AND QUILT ENTHUSIASTS!!!!

©             It’s getting close to time for our 8th Annual Heart of Texas Quilt Show and we would love to have your quilts to display!!
©             Our show again this year will be at the Brownwood Coliseum located in downtown Brownwood at 500 E. Baker. 
©             The show will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28th, until 5:00 p.m. and re-open again at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29th , until 4:00 p.m. 
©             The show is a viewer’s choice with special awards – Brownwood Mayor’s Choice, Early Mayor’s Choice, HPU President’s Choice and Guild Choice.  The quilt receiving the most Favorite Overall votes will be the 2012 Best of Show.  New this year, the Feathered Star Quilt Shop in Clyde, Texas will be providing a $25.00 gift certificate to the winner of the Best of Show and the Judge’s Choice Award.
©             Again this year we will be incorporating a Judged Division.  This is optional for all entries.  For a fee of $10.00, you may have your quilt judged.  If you would like to have your quilt judged and receive a critique from the show judge, please indicate such on the entry form. 

©             We have several vendors already signed up to be at the show with new fabrics, quilting tools, notions, patterns, cutting systems and sewing machines.  We have a donation quilt to be given away on April 29th at the conclusion of the show and we will have a Quilt Show Shop Hop and an Old Fashioned Bed Turning this year.  Information and rules for the shop will be made available at the show.

©             Kate Ackley from Bastrop, Texas will be presenting a lecture and trunk show at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon at the show on the history of quilting.  She has some beautiful quilts and a really nice program and this is something that you don’t want to miss seeing!
©             In addition, Kate Ackley will be conducting hand-piecing/quilting workshops on Saturday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. and again on Sunday morning at 8:30 at the Early Economic Development Center Conference Room.  The cost of the workshop is $50.00 per person and a supply list will be provided to each participant once their completed registration form is received.  Please contact Angela McCorkle at 325-642-1544 for a registration form or if you have any questions regarding the workshop.  This class will be well worth the time!

©             Enclosed herein is an entry form for the show.  Please feel free to make as many copies as you need, there is no limit to the number of quilts that you may enter, we just ask that if you entered it in a previous show and it won in its category or if it won Best of Show, please not enter it again.  We have added another new category this year, it is a Theme category.  This year’s theme is Friendship Across Texas and features quilts containing the friendship star block.  If you have quilts with this block, be sure to enter it in this category.  The drop off time for your quilts will be THURSDAY, April 26, from 2:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m. and you may pick up your quilts after the show on Sunday beginning at 5:00 p.m.  The deadline for the entry forms is April 1, 2012.

2011 QUILT SHOW RESULTS

Pictured above is a quilt entered by Joy Early from Bangs, Texas named “Serendipity”, and was selected Best of Show, won first place in it’s category by the viewer’s and received a second place ribbon in the judged division at the Seventh Annual Heart of Texas Quilt Show held April 30th and May 1st at the Brownwood Coliseum. Attendee’s on Saturday voted on their favorite quilt in each category and their favorite overall. Joy’s quilt was selected as the overall viewer’s favorite quilt from 110 entries. This quilt pattern was designed by Jonna Burkes and quilted by Angela McCorkle. All of these women are members of the Brownwood Quilter’s Guild which goes to show that it takes a village to make a quilt!

This year we also offered participants the opportunity to have their quilts critiqued by a quilt judge. This year’s judge was Fran Snay from Burleson, Texas. She awarded 1st through 3rd place ribbons in each category and two overall awards; Judge’s Choice – Judged Division and Judge’s Favorite Overall selected from all the quilt entries, judged or not. The winner of the Judge’s Choice – Judged Division was Rebecca Yarbrough from Nacogdoches, Texas for her Millefiori Revival which was hand quilted by Creative Christians. The winner of the Judge’s Favorite Overall went to Kitty Miller from Lakeway, Texas for her May Flowers entry quilted by Angela McCorkle, Priddy, Texas.

2010 Heart of Texas Quilt Show Results




2010 QUILT SHOW RESULTS

Pictured above is a quilt entered by Mary Laminack from Marble Falls, Texas named “Stars for A New Day”, and was selected Best of Show, received the Guild Choice Award and won first place in it’s category at the Sixth Annual Heart of Texas Quilt Show held April 24th and 25th at the Brownwood Coliseum. Attendee’s on Saturday voted on their favorite quilt in each category and their favorite overall. Mary’s quilt was selected as the overall viewer’s favorite quilt from 160 entries. This quilt was a block of the month kit offered designed by Sue Garmon and offered through the Alex Anderson/Ricky Timms website. This quilt is entirely paperpieced and Mary indicated that each month’s patterns took approximately 20-25 hours to complete. Mary’s quilt was quilted by Angela McCorkle from Priddy, Texas. We also had a Quilter’s Goodie Basket that was being given away. The donations collected for the goodie basket will go into our Charity Change fund to be given to the Toys for Kids Program in December. We collected $275.00.

A workshop was held in conjunction with the show, More Hand Applique by Machine, based on the book by Beth Ferrier of the same name. The class was taught by Angela McCorkle of Quilts With a Heart in Priddy, Texas. Classes were conducted at the Girl Scout House on Avenue D on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.
